FUTURE DAY AND EXTENDED VISITS

24 – 28 September 2018 - Portsmouth and Southsea

For our Autumn Break this year we shall be staying at the Best Western 3 star Royal Beach Hotel situated on the sea front at St. Helen’s Parade, Southsea.  The main planned outing is to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, which is a fascinating attraction with HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum. This will be an all day visit to the Dockyard attractions and the Spinnaker tower, with some behind the scenes guided tours. Various other trips are planned.

23 October 2018 - BMW Mini Plant, Oxford

HELC has a confirmed booking for a party of 30 persons with BMW Group for an exclusive  conducted factory tour of the Mini Plant at Cowley, Oxford. The HELC party will be conducted around the factory in two groups of 15. The tour will start at 9:30 am and all HELC visitors will need to check in by 9:15 am. The plant tours last approximately 2 to 2.5 hours and will lead through different production areas.

If you wish to participate in this HELC visit please complete the booking form and return it as soon as possible to John Hammond, Visits@helc.org.uk, with your cheque for £20.00 per person payable to HELC.  Bookings will be taken on a strictly "first come, first served" basis.  Further details, booking form, and John Hammond’s contact details, are in the September HELC Newsletter.

27 November 2018 - Scott Polar Research Institute - Cambridge

HELC has booked a party of 20 persons to visit the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI), part of the Department of Geography at The University of Cambridge, in the morning. 20 is the maximum group size that SPRI can accommodate, but if there is sufficient demand, HELC will consider arranging a visit for a second party on another date.

The HELC party will enjoy a conducted tour starting at 11:00 am so the group should plan to arrive at around 10:45am.  The cost is £10.00 per person plus your own transport costs. After the visit to SPRI, it may be possible to organise a lunch (at additional cost) - further details will be sent to members who register for the visit to SPRI.

Further details, including advice to travel by public transport, booking form, and John Hammond’s contact details, are in the September HELC Newsletter.  John Hammond, Visits@helc.org.uk.

Other Visits

Various ideas are being pursued.  Please look out for more information in future Newsletters.

WALKS

Thurs 27 September - The Cock Inn and Chess Valley Walk
