The Club arranges occasional visits to local places of interest, as well as longer breaks away in Britain and the Continent. There is usually a walk followed by a pub lunch every month. Full information about these activities can be found in the latest issue of the Newsletter but the principal details of upcoming events are listed here.

FUTURE DAY AND EXTENDED VISITS
Tuesday 24 July 2018 - Day-visit to Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station
HELC has obtained a provisional reservation for a club members’ visit to Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station, near Leiston, Suffolk. The size of party will be strictly limited to 40 persons, so bookings will be accepted strictly on a first come; first served basis, and limited to one HELC member and one spouse/partner or personal guest. It is planned that travel will be by coach and the trip will be all day. Further details and booking form in the May HELC Newsletter.
The cost is estimated at approximately £35 per head inclusive of travel and the visit to Sizewell B, but will not include the cost of lunch. If you want to come let John Hammond know by 18 May and confirm with your payment by 25 May.
24 – 28 September 2018 - Portsmouth and Southsea
For our Autumn Break this year we shall be staying at the Best Western 3 star Royal Beach Hotel situated on the sea front at St. Helen’s Parade, Southsea. The main planned outing is to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, which is a fascinating attraction with HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum. This will be an all day visit to the Dockyard attractions and the Spinnaker tower, with some behind the scenes guided tours. Various other trips are being planned.

Thursday 31 May – To Wheathampstead and back via Brocket Hall
Meet 10.00 at the Sun Inn, 31 Lemsford Village, LEMSFORD, WGC, AL8 7TN (map) to pre-order food and for 10.30 start, with coffee at 12:00 and lunch at 2 pm. This circular route, starts and finishes at the Sun Inn. It is a slightly longer walk than usual, 6.6 miles, so we’ve included a coffee break and later lunch.

Wednesday 27 June - Preston & St Paul's Walden
A 5½ mile walk from Preston, going south via Stagenhoe and St Paul’s Walden, to be led by Jane Kerr.
Tuesday 17 July - Preston and Dead Woman's Lane
Ian Williamson is leading a short circular walk from Preston via Dead Woman's Lane and Wain Wood.
New walks are always welcome.
